We stopped selling China. We started decoding it.
China Key began life as a marketing agency. We were good at packaging stories for Western audiences. Then we noticed the story everyone was missing — and decided to tell that one instead.
The pivot
For years we helped brands make things look like they came from somewhere else. Designed in California. Engineered in Germany. Assembled — quietly, in small print — in Shenzhen. The factory was something to hide.
Spend enough time on the ground in the Pearl River Delta and that framing starts to feel not just outdated, but backwards. The most interesting hardware on earth isn't being hidden in Chinese factories. It's being invented in them.
China is not the world's factory. It's the world's innovation center for products that change lives and reshape industries.
That sentence became our thesis. So we retired the agency, kept the name, and rebuilt China Key into something more useful: an independent intelligence hub for people who need to understand where the next wave of technology is actually coming from.
What we do now
We track the companies, breakthroughs and supply-chain shifts across four sectors that are being redrawn from Chinese labs and production lines — robotics, artificial intelligence, drones, and electric vehicles. We translate that movement into clear, numbers-grounded briefings.
No hype cycles. No geopolitical axe-grinding. No recycled press releases. Just signal — written the way someone who has actually walked the factory floor at Huaqiangbei and sat through a Canton Fair vendor meeting would write it.
How we're different
- On the ground, not in the abstract. Our read on China starts from supply chains, component prices and shipping lanes — not from a desk in another hemisphere.
- Builder's lens. We care about what a breakthrough means for the people who design, source and ship real products.
- Independent. We're not a vendor's mouthpiece and not a government's. Where the numbers point, we go.
- Bilingual by default. We read the Chinese-language source, not the translated summary of a summary.
Who reads China Key
Founders sourcing their next product. Investors sizing a category before it's obvious. Operators who import, manufacture or compete with Chinese hardware. Anyone who'd rather understand the shift than be surprised by it.
Figures are directional — they describe our remit and editorial stance, not audited metrics.
