China has become the world’s largest source of overseas students, accounting for 14 percent of global total.
China is the biggest foreign buyer of Australian education, with about 165,000 students enrolled in courses.
This constitutes about 27 per cent of the market and an even larger slice of revenue — more than $6 billion — as the country sends a higher proportion of its students to three-year bachelor degrees and higher qualifications, which draw larger fees than vocational courses.
Macquarie University is one of the most popular in Australia among Chinese students. It has over 5000 current Chinese students and a further 14,000 Chinese alumni, many of whom work for Fortune 500 companies.
